How to Check a Kuwait Job Offer Is Genuine

By IshanSeptember 27, 2026Updated:October 3, 202608 Mins Read

Every year, Indian families lose savings to Kuwait job offers that turn out to be fake. Sometimes the job does not exist at all. Sometimes there is a real visa, but the salary, job title or employer is completely different from what was promised. And sometimes the worker lands in Kuwait only to discover there is no employer waiting, just a debt to repay and no legal way to earn.

The good news is that most fraudulent offers share the same warning signs, and India and Kuwait both offer official ways to verify recruiters, employers and visas. Spending a few days checking before you pay or travel is far cheaper than spending months trying to recover from a scam.

This guide walks you through a practical checklist. It is written for general awareness; we do not recruit, and we cannot verify individual offers on anyone’s behalf.

Why Fake Kuwait Offers Are So Common

Kuwait is a popular destination with strong currency value, which makes it attractive to fraudsters. Common tactics include:

  • Fake offer letters using the names of real companies
  • Social media posts and WhatsApp forwards with “urgent hiring” messages
  • Unregistered sub-agents in villages and small towns who collect money and disappear
  • Visit visas sold as work visas
  • “Free visas” sold by sponsors who have no real job for you

Fraudsters also study what job seekers want to hear. They advertise roles like “driver with free accommodation” or “hotel helper, salary 250 KWD”, knowing these sound believable but attractive. They often create urgency by saying only two seats are left or the visa quota closes this week. Knowing the patterns makes it much easier to recognise trouble early, and slowing down is your best defence.

Step 1: Check Who Is Recruiting You

Under Indian law, only recruiting agents registered with the Ministry of External Affairs can recruit workers for jobs abroad. Each registered agent has a licence number, and the list can be checked on the eMigrate portal.

Ask the agent for their registration certificate and confirm on eMigrate that:

  • The licence number exists and belongs to the same company name
  • The licence is valid and not suspended or cancelled
  • The office address matches where you are actually dealing with them

If the person you are talking to is a “sub-agent” who says they work for a big agency, contact the registered agency directly to confirm. Many scams run through middlemen who use a real agency’s name without permission.

Step 2: Understand the Fee Rules

Registered recruiting agents in India are allowed to charge only a service charge within a cap set by the government, and they must issue a proper receipt. Any demand far above this, or cash payments without receipts, is a strong warning sign. Check the current cap on the eMigrate portal or with the Protector of Emigrants office before paying.

Remember that many genuine Kuwaiti employers bear the cost of the visa and air ticket themselves. Be especially careful if you are asked to pay large sums for “visa stamping”, “PAM approval” or “medical clearance” to an individual’s bank account or UPI ID.

Step 3: Verify the Employer in Kuwait

A genuine employer will have a commercial licence in Kuwait and a registered presence. Simple checks include:

  • Searching for the company’s official website, office address and landline number
  • Looking for the company’s presence on reputable professional networks
  • Asking friends or relatives in Kuwait whether they know the company
  • Checking whether the company name on the offer letter exactly matches the name on the visa

Small differences in spelling or a different company name on the visa are a red flag. Your work permit ties you to the sponsor named on it, not to the company mentioned in a WhatsApp chat.

Step 4: Check the Visa Itself

Kuwait’s Ministry of Interior provides online services where you can check the status of an entry visa using details printed on it. If the visa number does not show up, shows a different name, or shows a visit category instead of work, stop and ask questions.

Look at the visa type carefully. A work entry visa linked to a private sector employer is what you need for a company job. A tourist or visit visa does not allow you to work, and promises of “conversion after arrival” frequently lead to workers being stranded.

Also look at the timeline. Genuine processing involves a medical examination at an approved centre in India and, for ECR passport holders, emigration clearance on eMigrate before you fly. If an agent says you can skip the medical, skip clearance or fly out “tomorrow” without any of these steps, the process is not legitimate. Ask for a copy of every document submitted in your name and keep them together in one folder.

Step 5: Read the Offer and Contract Closely

A genuine offer letter or contract should clearly state:

  • Your name and passport number
  • Employer’s full legal name and address in Kuwait
  • Job title, which should match your skills and the visa
  • Monthly salary in Kuwaiti Dinar, and how allowances are paid
  • Working hours, rest day and overtime terms
  • Accommodation, food and transport arrangements
  • Contract duration, leave and air ticket terms

If the offer is vague, missing key details or full of spelling mistakes, treat it with suspicion. If you are an ECR passport holder, the employment contract must be uploaded and processed through eMigrate before emigration clearance is granted.

Red Flags and Genuine Signs Compared

Warning Sign What a Genuine Process Usually Looks Like
Payment demanded in cash with no receipt Fees within government limits, with proper receipts from a registered agent
Offer received only on WhatsApp Written offer and contract with full employer details
Interview skipped or done in minutes Proper interview, often with a trade test for skilled roles
Visit visa offered for a work job Work entry visa in the employer’s name
Salary unusually high for the role Salary in line with market ranges for that job
Pressure to decide and pay immediately Reasonable time to review documents
Agent not found on eMigrate Agent listed with a valid licence
Request to hand over original passport for months Passport used only briefly for visa processing, with receipt

Step 6: Ask Official Bodies When Unsure

If you have doubts, you are not alone. Official help is available:

  • Protector of Emigrants (PoE) offices in India, which oversee emigration clearance and can advise on agents
  • Indian Embassy in Kuwait, which handles complaints and can sometimes verify employer information
  • MADAD portal, the Indian government’s online grievance system for consular matters
  • eMigrate portal, for agent verification and emigration clearance status
  • Pravasi Bharatiya Sahayata Kendra, which supports Indian workers abroad with information and help

Always verify details through official sources before you pay, sign or travel.

What to Do If You Have Already Paid

If you suspect you have been cheated:

  1. Stop paying immediately, even if the agent asks for “one last fee”
  2. Collect all evidence: receipts, chats, call logs, offer letters and bank transfer details
  3. File a complaint with the local police and the cyber crime portal if payments were made online
  4. Report the agent to the Protector of Emigrants and through the eMigrate or MADAD systems
  5. Warn others in your community so they do not fall for the same agent

Early reporting improves the chances of action, and it helps authorities blacklist fraudulent agents.

If You Are Already in Kuwait

Sometimes problems appear only after arrival, such as a different job, lower salary or no work at all. Do not accept illegal work out of panic. Contact the Indian Embassy in Kuwait and, for contract and wage matters, PAM. Keep your passport and documents safe and never sign papers you do not understand.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I verify a Kuwait visa from India?

Yes. Kuwait’s Ministry of Interior offers online visa inquiry services. Use the details printed on the visa and check that the name, passport number and visa type match.

Is it normal to pay an agent for a Kuwait job?

A registered agent may charge a service fee within the legal cap and must give a receipt. Large payments, payments to individuals or payments without receipts are warning signs.

What is a “free visa” in Kuwait?

It is an informal term for a visa issued by a sponsor who will not actually employ you. Working for someone else on such a visa is illegal and risky.

Do ECNR passport holders need to check offers too?

Yes. ECNR holders skip emigration clearance, but they face the same scams. Use the same verification steps.

Can the Indian Embassy confirm my job offer?

The embassy can guide you and handle complaints, and in some categories it attests employment documents. Contact it through official channels for specific queries.

The Takeaway

A genuine Kuwait job offer survives questions. Fake ones usually do not. Check the agent on eMigrate, verify the employer and the visa, read the contract carefully, refuse illegal fees and ask official bodies when in doubt. Those few careful steps protect both your money and your future.

The money figures mentioned in this guide to Kuwait job offer verification are indicative and based on commonly reported amounts. They change over time, so confirm current figures with the employer or the Embassy of India, Kuwait listed under Helpful Links.
